What is: Linalool?

Linalool is a naturally occurring terpene alcohol that is found in many essential oils, including lavender, basil, coriander, and citrus oils. It is responsible for the sweet, floral aroma of many of these oils.

In addition to its pleasant scent, linalool has several therapeutic properties. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain-relieving), and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects. Linalool has also been found to have sedative effects, making it useful for promoting relaxation and sleep.

Linalool is commonly used in aromatherapy, where it is believed to help reduce stress and promote relaxation. It is also used in some cosmetic and personal care products for its fragrance and therapeutic properties.

It’s important to note that linalool, like all essential oil compounds, should be used with caution and under the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner. Some people may be allergic or sensitive to linalool, and high doses can be toxic. Always dilute essential oils containing linalool in a carrier oil before applying topically, and never ingest essential oils unless under the guidance of a trained professional.
